Explanations from Thalia
Thalía did not delay in addressing the
controversial photographs which she took in locations which are prohibited in
the archaeological ruins of Chichén Itza, those which after being published in a
Mexican magazine unleashed the ire of the National Institute of Anthropology and
History of Mexico (INAH).
"To the entire public, to all the media, to all of my beloved Mexico, I direct
myself in order to clarify some reports which currently are circulating about
the visit I made to the state of Yucatan," reads the press release sent by the
artist.
It continues: "The encounter which I had with this part of my fatherland was so
beautiful that I wanted to share the beauty of this land through a testimony
which I completed with photographs taken with the digital camera which I carried
with me...... INAH, as all institutions, is ruled by norms and procedures which
must be followed..... As a Mexican, if I committed a crime in the improper
publication of some images, I only ought to answer for this to INAH. For this
reason my lawyers are cooperating in everything that may be required, since
thanks to INAH the richness of our pre-Hispanic culture continues to be
preserved and conserved", she added.
Tommy Mottola's wife lamented the situation and excused herself for her actions.
"I never expected that the result would be of this nature", she stated after
explaining the motives which led her to visit Yucatán. "It was due to the fact
that my sister Federica [Sodi] is presently the director of INAH in that state
and I was not going to waste the opportunity to get to know it". The singer
denied besides that these problems have affected the relationship with her
sister and advanced the information that she hopes to have more time to continue
getting to know places in Mexico.
For their part, investigatore of the INAH center of Yucatan asked that the
National Executive Committee of Workers of that institution investigate if
Thalia broke the law of Heritage and Historic Monuments. According to the
newspaper El Universal, the visit which the Mexican made to the archaeological
ruins was led by her sister.
